UNC denies $1.2M payment to Lindquist
THE OPPOSITION UNC yesterday denied approving payments to Canadian forensic investigator Robert Lindquist during its tenure in office. In a statement, the party said the issue of the retention of Lindquist’s services by the UNC government “was never brought to the attention of the Cabinet by former Attorney General Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj or anyone else.”
The UNC categorically denied that it paid $1.2 million of the $21 million payment to Lindquist insisting that the “payments were made illegally and the person or persons responsible should be made to account.”
As a result, the UNC has called on Attorney General John Jeremie to answer several questions, including how much money was paid to Lindquist from January 2000 to September 2001, and on what date, under whose or what authority was Lindqust hired to perform such services, whether all such monies were paid directly to Lindquist, if not to whom and to provide documentary evidence of such contracts, payments and receipts.
