Tight security for ALNG restart

WITH SOME workers expected to cross the picket line at the Atlantic Train IV project, a large contingent of police and army personnel is expected to reinforce security at the site today. According to police sources, the beefed-up security is one of the measures that will be instituted as the project’s main contractor, Bechtel International, opens the construction site’s main gates. In paid advertisements yesterday, Bechtel officials gave details of a restart plan will which be divided into three phases. According to the company, it will take up to “three weeks to get all employees back on-site following the orientation, safety training and testing plan.”

Bechtel said all personnel will be required to undergo drugs and alcohol testing, as well as a safety orientation course. However, president of the Atlantic LNG protesting workers’ movement, Ernest Thompson, insisted that the eight-week work stoppage will not end until the workers’ demands are met by Bechtel and Atlantic LNG. Thompson called on workers who were considering a return to work to think about the consequences of their actions.
