Car crashes into house, knocks down sisters

TWO SISTERS were knocked down yesterday when a close male relative drove through their house and crashed into them. Melissa, 19, and Lisa Deonarine, 12, were trapped under the vehicle and suffered broken limbs. They were rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH) for treatment and police took the 44-year-old driver of the car, as well as a passenger, into custody. Both are from Morne Diablo.

The incident occurred yesterday afternoon after the male relative had an argument with the girls’ mother, Zeroda Deonarine, and stormed out of the house at Isaac Road, Morne Diablo. Around 1 pm, the man, who does not have a driver’s permit, was seen driving a car which he had borrowed from a friend at top speed. The vehicle raced off the road and crashed through the two-storey house, slamming into the downstairs area where the girls were seated in a hammock and a chair. The girls’ mother rushed downstairs to see her daughters trapped underneath the vehicle. She immediately called out to relatives and neighbours for help. A report was made to the Penal Police Station and two men were arrested. The driver was expected to be charged with driving without a permit and insurance, while the passenger is to be charged with aiding and abetting a person to drive without a permit. They are expected to appear in the Siparia Magistrates Court today. PC Corrie laid the charges and is continuing investigations.
