Dad shot dead and thrown out of car

A 41-year-old father of two was robbed of a quantity of cash, fatally shot  and thrown out of his vehicle at John Street, Montrose, on Sunday night. His murder is the 64th for the year. On Sunday night, two other persons were murdered. Reports revealed that Alvin Charles picked up four men in Port-of-Spain at around 10.05 pm. They asked to be taken to Chaguanas. On reaching John Street, Chaguanas, one of the four men shot Charles, robbed him of a quantity of cash, then threw him out of the vehicle.


Charles died minutes after being shot. Officers of the Chaguanas CID led by ASP John Millette, Inspector Burt Raphael, Ag Sgt Ajith Persad and including Cpl Villafana, and PCs James and Harriet, went to the scene along with District Medical Officer Dr Indarjit Birja. An All Points Bulletin was sent out on the stolen car. Lawrence Charles, a brother of the murder victim, told Newsday that Alvin was a hard working person who worked “PH” on a nightly basis to take care of his family.


He said his brother will be buried Saturday. Police investigators re-visited the scene of the killing yesterday and interviewed several persons. Investigators told Newsday they are confident of making a breakthrough in the investigation. An autopsy carried out by Dr Hughvon des Vignes late yesterday revealed that death was due to shock and haemorrhage consistent with a gunshot wound. Ag Sgt Persad is investigating.
