Man charged with damaging maxi
A 23-YEAR-OLD man charged with maliciously wounding a maxi-driver and malicious damage of the maxi has been granted $10,000 bail to cover both charges when he appeared before a San Fernando magistrate. Rishi Gopie, of Corosal Road, Whiteland, appeared before acting deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the First Court with his left arm heavily bandaged. Both indictable charges were laid by PC Ramkhelawan.
Cpl Wendell Fernando was court prosecutor. The victim of the alleged attack, 60-year-old Harry Dass, is still hospitalised at San Fernando General Hospital with a fractured skull and other injuries. Dass is from Williamsville. It is alleged that on April 2, Dass was struck on his head and above the left eye with a bottle and stones. The windscreen of his maxi was also smashed with bottles and stones. According to reports, Dass required a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan to determine the extent of his head injuries. Gopie would reappear in court on April 16.
