Cops detain man in girl’s death
A 19-year-old man of McBean Village, Couva, was detained on Friday for questioning into the death of his two-year-old step-daughter Karina Roberts. The child complained of feeling unwell on Thursday morning and was taken to the Couva District Hospital. She was examined by Dr Shinlata and given Gravol and Gesol.
The child returned to her home and again complained of feeling sick. She was again taken to the Couva Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival at 4 pm on Friday. The body was viewed by District Medical Officer Dr Mahabir who ordered its removal to the Forensic Science Centre. The body bore unaccounted marks.
Homicide officers detained the 19-year-old stepfather of the child who was questioned at the Couva Police Station. An autopsy will be carried out on the body on Tuesday. Based on the findings, the Director of Public Prosecutions Geoffrey Henderson will be consulted. Sgt Lumy of the Couva CID is investigating.
