Fire shuts TTT down

TRINIDAD and Tobago Television (TTT) went off the air last night because of a fire. According to reports, at around 7.15 pm, just before the sports segment on the Panorama news, workers at the station observed smoke billowing from one of the air-condition units at the station. A fire drill was immediately put in place and the workers were ordered out of the building.

Up to press time, the cause of the fire had not yet been determined and the extent of the damage was unknown. Reports state that the fire brigade rushed to scene and was still on site with the fire prevention department checking the damage. Sources refused to speculate about whether the fire had anything to with the current separation packages being offered by Government to the workers as the long-standing media house prepares for closure.
