Businessman charged with obscene language

THE proprietor of a San Fernando restaurant and bar who was charged with using obscene language, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer, was granted $4,000 bail when he appeared before a San Fernando magistrate yesterday. Harry Rooplal, 52, of Cipero Road, Victoria Village, San Fernando, pleaded not guilty to all three charges as he stood before Fourth Court Magistrate Rajendra Rambachan. The matter was adjourned to July 26.

According to the charges, at around 4.30 pm on Monday, two officers from Gasparillo police station entered Midnight Express Restaurant and Bar to place a food order when Rooplal allegedly started to shout obscenities at them. The officers warned Rooplal about his conduct and attempted to arrest him, but he put up a struggle and allegedly assaulted one of the officers, before being subdued.
