Morvant man shot dead

THE execution of David Kong, executive of a small Port-of-Spain cleaning company, has left Maraval police baffled. At around 9.10 pm on Tuesday night, Shervan Wilson of Edinburgh 500 in Chaguanas, was on his way home when he saw the bleeding Kong, 53, lying motionless on the North Coast Road in the vicinity of the pillars. Wilson contacted the police who found Kong dead with a bullet wound in his chest. The left side of his face was swollen from an apparent beating. District Medical Officer Dr Tom Pak visited the scene and ordered the body removed to the Forensic Science Centre.

Police are mystified by the killing as Kong was not known to be involved in any nefarious activities, nor was he robbed. The man had no car and TT$10 was found in his pocket. “At present, we have no leads in his murder.” More investigations revealed that he was constantly visiting people in the area, whom police are currently questioning. When Newsday visited his L’espinet Street, Morvant home, no one was at home but shocked neighbours claimed that he was a quiet man who had two children living with him. “We cannot say anything about him or his activities because all he did was to come and go.”

Kong had been living at that particular address for the last three years. Movant police also denied knowing of him. Visiting the scene were Inspectors. Lezama, Julius and Corporal Rivas, who is leading the investigation. In an unrelated matter, Amiel George, 18, and Devon Timothy, 19, both of Upper Waterhole in Cocorite were bathing at a spring in the area around 8.15 on Tuesday morning when a known gang member walked up to them and started firing shots, hitting George twice in the leg. The gang member ran off while the injured man was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was warded up to press time. Constable Straker of the St James Criminal Investigation Department is continuing enquiries.
