Bandit critical after shooting
A bandit was shot by security officers during a robbery attempt at a businessplace during the early hours of yesterday. According to reports, security officers from Securicor Security Services responded to an alarm at about 12:30 am at All Round Trading on the Eastern Main Road, Laventille. On arriving, the officers saw a man leaving the premises with a large box. As the officers called for the man to stop, the intruder attempted to run off, leaving the box behind. However, the Securicor officers managed to corner the man who then whipped out a piece of iron, challenging the officers.
One of the officers, in an attempt to subdue the man, withdrew his service revolver and shot the attacker in the abdomen. The injured man was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. Checks with the hospital yesterday revealed that the injured man was warded in critical condition. A party of officers under the supervision of woman Sgt Mackie of the Besson Street CID visited the scene. Cpl Rowley of Besson Street CID is continuing investigations.
