PM to host Windies team

Cricket icon Brian Lara will return to Trinidad and Tobago on Monday to a glorious welcome which would include an official ride to the Brian Lara Promenade from Piarco. The events planned to celebrate Lara’s second record achievement would span two days and would see him travelling to Chaguanas, San Fernando and Penal.

Lara, who will arrive at Piarco at 1 pm, would be given to public reception at the airport. “Members of the public are invited to greet Mr Lara at the airport,” a release from the Prime Minister’s office said last night. Lara will then travel to the Promenade, via the Eastern Main Road and the public is invited to line the route to show their support for Mr Lara. On arrival at the Brian Lara Promenade, he will address the public.

On Tuesday, Lara will pay a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Port-of-Spain before going to Chaguanas to pay a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Chaguanas. From Chaguanas, Lara will travel to San Fernando to pay a courtesy visit to the Mayor of San Fernando. He will then go to Penal to pay a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Penal/Debe Corporation.

The public is invited to line all the streets along these various rides to show their support both on Monday and Tuesday. Lara’s visit to Tobago would be announced “in due course,” the release stated. Prime Minister Patrick Manning will host the entire West Indies cricket team to an official reception on May 8, the release said. The public will be advised of further details this weekend, the release stated. Lara, who was given similar fanfare in 1994 when he made Test cricket history by scoring 375 runs,  set a new record in cricket history by making 400 runs in the last series.
