Motorcade for Lara

PLANS for celebrations on the return of Brian Lara began yesterday morning, when a coordinating team met at Whitehall.  Lara is scheduled to return tomorrow, although he spent some time here on Friday. According to a release from the Office of the Prime Minister, the team comprised of the Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, Roger Boynes and officials from the ministry; Minister of Community Development and Culture, Senator Joan Yuille-Williams and officials from the ministry; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, Earl Nesbitt; Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister, Zaida Rajnauth; Assistant Special Adviser to the Prime Minister on Information and Communications, Monique St Cyr; Media Officer in the Office of the Prime Minister, Roy Rique and officials from the Airports Authority and the Police Traffic Branch.


The following is an update on plans for the celebrations tomorrow:
— Brian Lara is expected to arrive at Piarco International Airport at approximately 1.05 pm.
— He will be taken to the airport’s Diplomatic Lounge, where he will be greeted by members of his family, Prime Minister Patrick Manning, the Chief Justice, Cabinet Ministers, Opposition Leader Basdeo Panday, Members of Parliament, the Chief Protocol Officer, officials of the West Indies Cricket Board, officials of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board and other officials.
— From the Diplomatic Lounge, officials will escort Lara to the airport’s Atrium, where members of the public will greet him and the media will have its first photo opportunity.
— At approximately 1.45 pm, Lara will be escorted to the North Eastern car park of the airport for a public reception, which will include addresses by the Prime Minister, Lara and other officials, as well as a cultural programme.
— At approximately 2.30 pm, Lara will be escorted, as part of a motorcade, to the Brian Lara Promenade, Port-of-Spain.
