UNC celebrates 15th anniversary
THE United National Congress (UNC) yesterday formally unveiled plans to mark its 15th anniversary with a month of celebrations under the theme “Fifteen Years of Success.” Among the activities planned is an essay writing competition for Fifth and Sixth Form students. According to Political Leader Basdeo Panday, students will choose from three subjects — “The present system of government in Trinidad and Tobago leads to the dictatorship of the Cabinet,” “Should we abolish appeals to the Privy Council in favour of the Caribbean Court of Justice?” and “Have women been denied equality of opportunity in the political arena of Trinidad and Tobago?”
A cash prize of $500 and a trophy will be given to the top ten students and the top five schools will receive suitable gifts for their libraries. An academic and policy function at the Learning Resource Centre of the UWI is also part of the programme. American senior policy analyst, Dr Angel Rabasaa will address the gathering on the subject, “The nexus between crime and terrorism: Implications for small nation states.” There will be interfaith service at the Bamboo Presbyterian Church, as well as a gala all-inclusive dinner and dance at the Sepp Blatter Hall, Center of Excellence, Macoya, and a sports and family day at the Munroe Road Cricket Grounds.
