Fire destroys Bethel house

SEVEN PERSONS, including a pensioner, were left homeless after fire destroyed a three bedroom dwelling house at Egypt in Bethel, Tobago, over the weekend The fire started at the house, owned by 62-year-old Godfrey James, at around 12.45 pm, but a report was not received at Scarborough Fire Station until 1.20 pm. By the time fire appliances arrived on the scene, the structure was completely engulfed in flames. Fire officers are working on the theory that an iron was left plugged in during a power failure in the area and the blaze was started by a power surge upon its restoration. Investigations are continuing.
