Arima man gunned down while liming
AN Arima man was fatally gunned down in a hail of bullets on Tuesday night, while a friend was shot in his buttocks as they ran down the Priority Bus Route pedestrian entrance into Samaroo Village, Arima. Amandoe Huggins, 27, of #47 Reid Lane, D’Abadie and his friend Sean Thomas, 26, of Malabar Branch Road, Malabar were sitting liming on a culvert when a car pulled up, three men came out and started firing. Huggins who was shot in his head, chest and body stumbled, then dropped dead a few metres away. Thomas ran and collapsed a short distance away. Thomas was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was warded under a different name and later treated and discharged before the police could talk to him. The police contacted the DMO who ordered Huggins’ body removed to the Forensic Sciences Centre where autopsy results confirmed he died from multiple gunshots to his body.
When Newsday visited the area yesterday an associate of the two men said that, “around 7.15 pm I walked to the two men and asked Huggins about the CDs he borrowed. He said I would get them tomorrow and I walked away. A few seconds later I heard a volley of shots and looked around to see three men pull away their guns, jump in a car and drive off. I ran to to scene and saw Huggins dead on the ground and Thomas groaning and moaning.” The police were contacted and took Thomas taken to the hospital and Huggins to the mortuary.” Residents refused to say if there was any motive for the murder. When Newsday visited Huggins’ #47 Reid lane home his relatives refused to speak. Neither men had any criminal records. Ag Sgt Peter Hamilton is continuing enquiries.
