‘Rummy’ winner shot dead after card game

A 16-year-old youth was shot dead by an enraged gambler after losing a card game Wednesday night. Arrindel Michael was shot six times by the gunman who then fled the scene. His murder is the 77th for the year and the 14th murder to take place in the Northern Division. Reports revealed that around 10.30 pm on Wednesday, Michael and a group of men were playing rummy at a track at 7th Avenue in Bon Air Gardens, when he was declared winner of the game.


Reports revealed that Michael started making faces at one of the losers. One of the players reportedly left the scene and returned a short while later with a gun. Reports revealed that the gunman fired several shots at Michael, striking him in the chest, neck, back and abdomen. Michael was rushed to the Arima Hospital by E-999 officers who were on patrol in the area, but was pronounced dead on arrival. Inspectors Thomas, Hansraj, Sgt Ragoonanan and Cpl Winston visited the scene. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a man. An autopsy on Michael’s body will be carried out today at the Forensic Science Centre.
