Chinese Laundry shot
Chow Lin On is the Managing Director of Trinidad and Trinidad Radio Network (TTRN), which consists of 96WEFM, 107.7FM and Star 94.7 FM and the manager of soca star Machel Montano.
Police reported that at about 9.14 pm on Thursday, Chow Lin On was driving his black BMW sedan along the Western Main Road heading to his Goodwood Park, Westmoorings home.
Upon reaching Goodwood Park intersection, a car stopped to allow him to drive in. As he turned, the car pulled alongside Chow Lin On’s car and the occupants in the other vehicle opened gunfire hitting him four times.
Chow Lin On was shot twice in his upper right arm, once near his lower jaw and once in his chest. Police said the injuries were flesh wounds (no vital internal organs were punctured) but noted the shooter appeared to be “skilled”.
This was not the first time Chow Lin On has been shot at. Three years ago, he was shot at during an attempted robbery in Port-of-Spain. On that occasion, he drew his licensed firearm and returned fire. He was not injured in that incident.
The police do not know the motive for Thursday’s shooting but they believe it was a “hit” and said Chow Lin On was being followed. Supt Patterson, ASP William, Inspector Thomas and Ag Cpl Linton are investigating the shooting.
National Security Minister Emmanuel George, himself a former DJ who went by the sobriquet “Hurricane George”, visited the St James Police Station where he spoke to officers about the incident. He then visited the Four Roads Police Station in Diego Martin to speak to the investigating officers before visiting the scene of the incident. When Newsday visited the Goodwood Park area, residents said they were surprised by the incident but they did not feel threatened.
“It did not happen inside and something like this does not occur very often so I am not worried and I am sure the police will find who did it,” one woman said. No arrest has been made and investigations are continuing.
