Man freed of sex charges
A 36-year-old labourer of San Fernando was Friday discharged on four counts of sex with a minor, who was a 12-year-old relative. The man was freed by acting deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the San Fernando First Court. Attorney, Mewahlal Chatoor, argued that with the complainant in the matter serving suspension since last year, the case was called several times but the prosecution has been unable to proceed.
Cpl Wendell Fernando was the court prosecutor. The four charges alleged that the man had sex with a 12-year-old relative between July 1 and 27, 2003. However, once the complainant returns from suspension, the prosecution expressed the possibility of the man being recharged and brought back before the court.
