Body found on east coast
MAYARO police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the body of a man found on the sea coast near Calmapas Village in Guayaguayare yesterday morning. The unidentified man of African decent, who is believed to be in his mid-20s, was discovered around 7.30 am by a passerby. Police sources said they could not determine whether the body bore marks of violence or was damaged by the waves. Officers said they also did not know if his death was the result of foul play and as such, are awaiting proper identification so an autopsy could be carried out to ascertain the cause of death.
Based on the condition of the body, police suspect the man may have died a few hours before his body was found. Police said the man, who is five feet nine inches in height, was found clad in a black three-quarter pants and was bareback. Under the trousers, he wore an Oakland Raiders short pants. Police said the man had a short “dreadlock” hairstyle, short beard and old scars on the left side of his neck. The body was viewed by District Medical Officer Dr Amin, who ordered it removed to the Forensic Science Centre, Federation Park in St James. Anyone who may be able to assist in identifying the body can contact the Mayaro Police Station at 630-4333. Sgt Rampersad is continuing investigations.
