Man charged with raping teen, robbing mom
A 30-YEAR-OLD Marabella man, who told a San Fernando magistrate he was married to two women and has four children, was granted $100,000 bail when he appeared in court yesterday charged with raping a 17-year-old girl and robbing her mother. The man appeared before acting Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington on charges laid indictably by PC Keith Ifill of the Gasparillo Police Station.
The man is charged with raping and buggering the teen, then using violence to rob her mother of $15,000 in jewelry. Another man said to be involved in the incident is yet to be detained by police. The defendant was arrested at Battoo Avenue in Marabella on Thursday. In court yesterday, he told Magistrate Wellington: “I would like you to grant me bail because I am a sickly person and in need of medication.” The accused said he had two wives and four children, which led the magistrate to ask whether or not he was living in Saudi Arabia. Magistrate Wellington subsequently granted the man $100,000 bail and adjourned the matter to May 17.
