Noel under cover at hospital

After undergoing surgery for several hours on Friday, to remove three egged-shaped boils that covered his face, Noel Lochan was in a sedate condition yesterday, at the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH). Lochan, 23, had bandages covering most of his face and was unresponsive when Sunday Newsday visited. A net has now been placed over Lochan’s hospital bed at Ward 6 as he recuperates from the sensitive skin surgery. During his two weeks warded at SFGH, doctors have carried out blood investigations and tissue biopsies to diagnose his skin condition but do not yet have conclusive results.

The surgery was performed by skin consultant Dr Balkaran Ramkissoon after a decision was taken earlier this week to surgically remove three lesions on his face. The boils which covered most of his face were said to be larger than those about his body and had caused his right eye to close in. The young man, who was employed at a chicken depot in Princes Town also underwent a blood transfusion and was administered a course of antibiotics in the hope that the lesions will subside or not spread to other parts of the body. Lochan was rescued on April 22, from his humble abode which he shared with his 11 siblings at Mathilda Road, St Julien Village, by the Princes Town Community Police. Lochan’s skin ailment, which doctors said is not contagious, has scarred almost his entire body.
