Hindu prayers at site of fatal crash

A GRIEVING Penal family who lost their daughter in a fatal accident which claimed six lives at Curepe three years ago, returned to the spot yesterday and recited Hindu prayers in her memory. Indra Manoram, aunt of the deceased, told Newsday Mahadevi Seeraj boarded a taxi at Curepe Junction to take her to San Fernando. She was on her way to Penal to pay a surprise visit to her relatives when tragedy struck. Seeraj was killed instantly in the crash. She was among five passengers in the taxi, including the driver, who died when it collided with a truck near the Kay Donna cinema.

Her grieving aunt said that she had several dreams in which Mahadevi told her the souls of the six persons who died in the crash were not at peace, and she asked that special prayers be recited at the site to assist them. Manoram said she discussed it with her husband and when she received the same dream again, she decided to fulfil the wishes of her departed niece. Yesterday, Indra and members of her family returned to the spot where Mahadevi was killed and special prayers were recited. Manoram told Newsday that she chose to have special prayers said yesterday because Mahadevi always found Mother’s Day to be special.
