Marijuana puts Carenage man in jail
A 25-year-old Carenage man was yesterday sentenced to nine months hard labour after pleading guilty to possession of marijuana. Gregory Titus appeared before Magistrate Jo-Anne Connor in the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded guilty to the charges laid by Constable Nanton of the Carenage Police Station.
According to reports, Titus was walking along Francois Street in Carenage at about 11 am on Monday when Constable Nanton, who was dressed in plain clothes, noticed the accused acting in a suspicious manner. The officer approached the man and searched him after identifying himself. The policeman found a black plastic bag in the man’s right front pocket which contained a plant-like substance, resembling that of marijuana and 17 foil packets containing the same substance. The officer then took Titus to the Carenage Police Station, where he was charged for the offence.
