Bandits rob TTEC crew

Personnel from the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (TTEC) responding to emergency calls from residents in “high-risk” areas may soon be asking the relevant authorities for guards or police to accompany them on these missions, as they no longer consider themselves safe. This has been the result as a TTEC crew was robbed and pistol-whipped Tuesday night after an emergency call that service had been interrupted at Basilon Street, East Dry River.

Reports indicated that the five-member crew responded to a call around 8.30 pm on Tuesday. While attempting to repair the damaged pole, the crew was confronted by bandits and robbed of cash and valuables. The Commission has said this is not the first time an incident of this nature has occurred, but the workers said they are fed-up of the situation. TTEC’s management has since stated that it will no longer tolerate this and revealed it is trying to establish a link between the company and police. Meanwhile, affected residents have extended a plea to the workers to repair the damaged pole, promising that the police will “stand as security” while they work.
