Cops seek Interpol help in identifying body
MAYARO police have turned to counterparts in Interpol for assistance in securing the identification of a man’s corpse, which was found on a beach near Calmapas Village in Guayagua-yare 11 days ago. With no leads on the deceased man’s identity and with no one coming forward to offer assistance, police now believe he may have been one of ten persons from three Caribbean countries who toured the Matelot Beach facility three weeks ago. Police sources said it was possible the man may have drowned while on excursion. Fingerprint impressions taken from the dead man, which were analysed at the Forensic Science Centre before being put through the police fingerprint computer database, yielded nothing.
The deceased man, who police say appeared to be in his 20s and was five feet nine inches tall, was found clad only in a black “three-quarter” trousers. According to a police description, the man had a short “dreadlock” styled haircut, a short beard and old scars on the left side of his neck. He was said to be of African decent and dark brown in complexion. Anyone who can assist in identifying the man is asked to contact the nearest police station or Mayaro Police Station at 630-4333. Sgt Rampersad is continuing investigations.
