Shot-up mechanic on arms charge

A 28-year-old auto mechanic, who was allegedly shot in the knee during a police raid last Tuesday, appeared before a Tunapuna Magistrate charged with possession of an unlawful weapon. Accused Kenwin Moore, of Cumuto Village, who was discharged the day before from the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, limped from the holding bay to the docks, where he stood before Magistrate Gloria Jasmath. Attorney representing the accused, Prakash Ramadar, said Moore was at his workplace, Ravi’s Body Creators, located at Bamboo Settlement Number 2, when the incident occurred.

It is alleged that at about midday, the accused was at his business place when an unmarked vehicle pulled up to the front of the business place, and four masked men ran into the car shop. Reports state that the accused, on seeing the masked men, attempted to run, but was shot in the knee. Ramadar said the bullet penetrated his client’s knee and also injured one of his toes. Moore was then held by the masked men and taken to the St Joseph Police Station, where he was charged for possession of an unlawful weapon. The Magistrate granted Moore bail in the sum of $30,000 with surety. Moore was remanded until a tracing was done to determine if he had any previous matters before the court. He will reappear in court on May 24.
