Prison officer held with ‘weed’ in prison
A prison officer with over 25 years service appeared Friday before Arima First Court Magistrate Debra Quintin, charged with possession of marijuana within the confines of the Golden Grove Prison. The officer, 46, of Brooklyn Settlement in Sangre Grande, has been placed on $25,000 bail to be approved by a Clerk of the Peace. He will reappear in court on May 24.
According to reports, a prison officer observed another officer speaking to an inmate at around 6.30 pm on Wednesday. The officer then observed that officer put something in a bin. The inmate took the bin downstairs and handed it to an orderly. The observing officer then told the orderly to empty the bin in a box, where the marijuana weighing five grammes was found. Police were called in and, after several interviews, the officer was charged. WPC Burgess laid the charge.
