Violent media destroying our youth

THE EDITOR:  Within recent times the media have bombarded our minds with gruesome violence, be it through the news, movie industry, or printed media. We  are faced with this in our schools and work places. Is there no hope for our  nation? Are we to cower to the minions of violence and destruction? We see the  Government unable to do much to curb the violence and degradation in our  society, but we still have hope. But it still falls to pieces each day we  watch the news. For a movie to be blockbuster- material it has to show violence, sexual  acts and destruction. We are gradually being desensitised by what we see and  hear. Is this the kind of society that we want our youths to grow up in?

But we believe we have no choice. The youths now are growing up much faster than we  had and are becoming aware of their sexuality much earlier also. The Internet, television and music are pushing and destroying the minds of our  young people and they (the youth), are continually being blamed for what  their elders have displayed. Where did they get such rubbish  from? Condoms are a contraceptive for pregnancy not AIDS or any STDs. When  will we teach the right things to our youths? We need to reflect upon where we are headed and where we are going.
