Ackbar and Harry get peace awards

Hosted jointly by the mediation board and the Tobago House of Assembly, among the recepients of awards were Inter-religious Organisation president Harrypersad Maharaj, and veteran Justice of the Peace Ackbar Khan. Harrypersad received the Individual Champion Peace award from His Excellency President of the Republic, Anthony Carmona .

The group award was won by Junior Chamber International from Tobago. Maharaj is a certified Family and Civil Mediator and a graduate of the STITT FELD group of Canada .

He has been practising his mediation and counselling skills for over 30 years, one of which was the political stand-off in 2000 between former Prime Minister Basdeo Panday and former president of the Republic ANR Robinson .

Khan has been a JP for over 50 years and has testified in hundreds of cases in the magistrates’ and High Courts. He has been the recipient of over 34 awards from various organisations in Trinidad and Tobago .
