Laventille man gunned down after taking bath

A Laventille man was gunned down shortly after bathing at a Laventille spring on Wednesday night and became this country’s 208th murder victim for the year. Edison Ashby, 34, alias ‘Eddie Boom’ aka ‘Balti’ ( Baltimore/Girls Man) of Village Council Street, Laventille was shot dead around 7.30 pm just as he tied a towel around himself after bathing at Springvale, Laventille, a short distance from his home. According to information after ‘Eddie Boom’ went to take a bath. On his way there was a power failure. According to eyewitness, after ‘Eddie Boom’ placed the towel around his waist, about seven men rushed up to him and started beating him. He ran  but stumbled and fell in a drain, where one of the gunmen stood over him and fired seven shots before running away.


Hearing the shots his sister Susan Ashby ran to him. “The police were contacted and together with the Emergency Health Service rushed him to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” his sister Susan said. “My brother was a cool guy and since coming out of prison he has been helping people. “It is these same people who he helped and placed food in their mouths that killed him because they jealous.” ‘Eddie Boom’ who had several firearms and drug possession charges pending was released from prison one month ago after serving three years for drug possession. When contacted police said they suspect gang warfare or an old grievance before he went to jail. Cpl Rowley of the Besson Street, Police Station is investigating.
