‘Give back to youths’

Public Relations officer of the Anjuman Sunnat ul Jamaat Association (ASJA) Dr Nazam Shah yesterday called on doctors, farmers, pharmacists and other qualified persons to assist in the development of their communities by offering training, opening businesses and offering employment to the less fortunate. He said this provides economical and social support so that a stronger, more viable society is established. Dr Shah, who is also principal of the ASJA Boys College in Charlieville, was speaking at the Youth Training symposium hosted by ASJA at Centre Pointe Mall, Chag-uanas.

He added that since crime is rampant in the country youths need to be guided properly toward responsible and successful living. “If young people are allowed to grow up without a strong sense of what is morally and spiritually acceptable according to their respective belief systems and traditional practices within the home, there is a greater possibility of deviation and delinquency,” he said. The theme of the conference was “Challenges of Youth in a Contemporary Society.” ASJA President Yacoob Ali addressed the opening of the conference yesterday and the youths were also addressed by Dr Nasser Mustapha, lecturer in Sociology at the University of the West Indies, Sharifa Ali-Abdullah of TIDCO and Kamal Ali, social worker and educator.
