Moruga woman held with drugs at airport
A Moruga woman appeared yesterday before a Port-of-Spain magistrate charged with attempting to export prohibited goods and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. Before Magistrate Lianne Lee Kim in the city’s Fourth Court was Kristy Billy of Indian Walk, Moruga, who was held at Piarco International Airport last Friday as she was about to board a BWIA flight. Billy was arrested and charged by customs officer Steve Singh after he found her behaving suspiciously. During questioning, it was discovered that Billy had ingested pellets filled with cocaine.
She was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where she passed out 50 cylindrical objects, each of which is believed to contain an illegal substance. Billy was not called on to plead as the charges were laid indictably. The accused, who was not represented by an attorney, was remanded in custody pending tracing. Billy was reminded of her right to apply to a judge in chambers for bail. The matter was adjourned to October 8.
