South group looking for answers to violence
A GROUP of retired educators, parents, teachers and community activists, is pooling its resources together in the Marabella and Gasparillo areas in order to identify, research and offer solutions to the problem of violence and indiscipline in schools. The group, calling itself the Marabella Concerned Citizens Committee, under the chairmanship of schoolteacher and musicologist Everton Smith, recently launched a series of interactive workshops on the empowerment of parents in the home environment. Commenting on the objectives of the group, Smith said, “Discussions on ‘Parent Empowerment Programme’ could not have materialised without the invaluable input from the Parents Teachers’ Association of the Marabella Secondary School.”
