Truck kills dad in Princes Town
FOUR-year-old Felicia Hospedales never got to see her daddy who was supposed to pick her up on Saturday to spend the weekend with him. Father of five, Desmond McLean, 31, died after he was struck by a truck, a short distance away from his daughter’s home. Police reports said around 12.30 pm McLean was attempting to cross the road at Indian Walk, Princes Town, when the truck collided with him. McLean, who was slammed against a wall on impact, died while undergoing emergency treatment at the Princes Town Hospital. At his Charlotte Street, Princes Town home yesterday his common law wife Amelia Chadee, 33, said McLean left home to go to the bank, then to purchase a yard of sand and pick up his four-year-old daughter, from a previous relationship, to spend the weekend with them.
“But she never got to see him. Only these children (pointing to her four children) got to see him before he left,” she said. Chadee said her husband was the sole bread winner in the family and she was not sure how she was going to take care of their four children, between the ages of one and nine. Describing her husband as a loving father, Chadee said he was extending the downstairs of their house for Christmas. “He was fixing the place for the children. Everything he did was to make his children happy. But there will be no Christmas for us now,” a teary-eyed Chadee said. A post-mortem will be performed today at the mortuary of the San Fernando General Hospital. Princes Town Police are continuing investigations.
