Small to pay $300,000 in costs to AG
WANTED fugitive Lance Small has been ordered to pay more than $300,000 in costs to the Attorney General as a result of his unsuccessful bid to escape his extradition to Florida. The Registrar yesterday ordered that Small pay the costs to the State. Newsday learnt that Attorney General John Jeremie is moving to recover the costs from Small for all his legal battles since his arrest on March 6.
Since his arrest, Small has been successful in one matter in which Justice Sebastien Ventour ordered his immediate release from prison on habeas corpus proceedings. His release was short-lived, however, as he was back in custody within minutes. Small has lost other matters as he battles to avoid his extradition to Florida to face firearm-related charges. Small, 69, goes before Justice Rajendra Narine in the Port-of-Spain Fourth Civil Court this morning in a last-ditch attempt to avoid his extradition. On September 21, Senior Magistrate Joanne Connor ordered Small’s extradition to the United States.
During the period April 17, 2000, and May 30, 2001, it is alleged that Small, also called Olive Enyahooma-El, and “Fires,” conspired with persons known and unknown to possess firearms — 60 AK-47 rifles, ten MAC-10 machine guns and ten machine gun silencers. It is also alleged that on May 30 2001, Small aided, abetted, counselled and procured Keith Andre Glaude to possess 60 AK-47 rifles, ten MAC-10 firearms, and ten machine gun silencers.
