Elias threatens to sue Ganga
Lawyers acting on behalf of NH International chairman Emile Elias have written UNC MP Ganga Singh threatening to sue if he doesn’t apologise for or withdraw statements made in two articles appearing in Tuesday’s Newsday. In addition to the apology, Singh has been asked to pay $100,000 in damages, which Elias will donate to charity. “Failing a satisfactory reply by October 28 2004, my client will be entitled to approach the courts for redress,” the letter stated. The articles were headlined, “Elias: I know how the documents were stolen” and “Ganga: Elias ducking corruption.” “The reference therein are obviously directed to my client NHIC and amount to a very serious libel. All the allegations contained therein relating to my client uttered by you are untrue,” the letter stated.
