Soldier jumps into Caroni River to escape carjackers
A soldier stationed at Teteron Barracks was forced to jump into the Caroni River Thursday night and swim to save his life. According to reports, while “pulling bull” at La Puerta Road, Diego Martin around 10 pm, the 31-year-old private of St Lucien Road picked up three men who wanted to go to Port-of-Spain. On entering the car, one of the men put a gun to the soldier’s neck and ordered him into the back seat. The men then drove to the Caroni Crema-tion Site where they attempted to tie him up and push him into the car trunk. The soldier resisted, fought off his abductors and escaped by running off and jumping into the nearby Caroni River. He swam downstream to escape the carjackers before going to the nearby Caroni Police Station, where he made a report. Visiting the scene were Sgt Stephen Ramsoobhag and PCs Marcus Jupiter and Asley Mungroo. Sgt Ramsoobhag is investigating.
