Last Felicity carjacker laid to rest
“My baby gone, he gone, why he gone, Lord,” screamed a distressed Kathleen Narad, mother of 15-year-old Prem Narad, who had to be restrained by relatives Friday. Kathleen and her nine children, two boys and seven girls, all had to be comforted by relatives and friends as they screamed and shouted near the end of the funeral service, as the undertaker prepared to place the pearly white coffin bearing the bullet-riddled body of Narad into the hearse. As the hearse drove out of narrow Coconut Drive, Felicity, Kathleen ran behind it, trying desperately to grasp the back of it and shouting, “Son, I love you, I love you, you leaving me and going, come back, come back, why, Oh God, why.” Narad was one of the four youths who was found dead after a high-speed chase and shootout.
Police officers attached to the Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) in San Fernando intercepted Narad, Dennis Roopchand, 20, Kevin Singh, 16, and Ravi Budhu, 15, in a taxi which they hijacked from Jairam Raghoo, at St Mary’s Junction on Monday night. Although Narad was reported to be a Form Two student of the Chaguanas Junior Secondary School, by his older sister Miranda, teachers of the school could not confirm that information. It is believed by many teachers and students at the school he may have been a valid student at the school, but never attended. Sunday Newsday understands that officials at the Ministry of Education were investigating the matter.
