Cops issue 214 speeding tickets
Two hundred and fourteen motorists were charged with speeding during an exercise by officers of the Highway Patrol on Sunday. During the same exercise, 353 persons were charged with traffic violations. The exercise was carried out in South, Central, La Horquetta and Port-of-Spain. Last weekend, 425 persons were charged with traffic offences during a similar exercise, and 186 vehicles were also wrecked in downtown Port-of-Spain during the same exercise.
Up to yesterday, 158 persons have died in road deaths for the year, while 154 persons were killed in road accidents during the same period last year. ACP Mobile Nazamul Hosein told Newsday yesterday motorists continued to flout all traffic regulations despite the increase in police exercises. He issued a call to the public to exercise more caution when driving and to adhere to all traffic laws. He stressed that the police exercises would continue. ACP Hosein also reminded members of the public seeking special passes for Carnival that the deadline is December 31.
