Robin: ‘I don’t deal in bogus documents’

OPPOSITION SENATOR Robin Montano yesterday insisted he does not deal in bogus documents and the National Housing Authority (NHA) document dated February 26 2002, which alleges that the PNM was involved in house-padding before winning that year’s elections, is real. Speaking to reporters during the tea break in the Senate, Montano declared, “I do not deal in bogus documents. I do not deal in forged documents. The original of February 26, 2002 — I know who has it. It can and will be produced at the appropriate time. The appropriate time is not quite yet.”

He welcomed Housing Minister Dr Keith Rowley’s earlier request to refer him to the Privileges Committee of Parliament, but said he would waive his right to a private hearing and demand that the committee sit in public to hear the charges against him. Montano said Rowley was mistaken about a legal document he (Montano) was preparing and it was no longer safe for him to discuss certain matters over a telephone. The UNC also insisted that Andre Monteil was NHA chairman from January 2002 and this could be verified by anyone at the NHA.
