Remember my husband’s legacy
He left behind a legacy. It is a legacy that his wife Hazel Manning believes the nation should get to know.
“I just want to ask of you to know Mr Manning’s legacy,” Hazel said. At the time the wife of the former Prime Minister was addressing constituents following the opening of a condolence book at the San Fernando East Constituency office, Navet Road, San Fernando yesterday morning.
Manning died on Saturday morning while being treated at the San Fernando General Hospital for Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.
“He (Manning) spent over 40 year as a representative of his constituency and was involved in politics of this country,” she said.
Mrs Manning further lamented that many people would speak about her husband’s legacy and others would read about it.
“You will read it, get to know it.
And in knowing it, understand it. Live it and at the end of the day, pass it on. And Trinidad and Tobago will be a better place,” she said. Mrs Manning was accompanied by San Fernando East Member of Parliament Randall Mitchell and other dignitaries.
Addressing constituents, Mitchell said that a number of condolence books were opened all over the country, but, “We here in San Fernando East wanted to do our own condolence book. Mr Manning served San Fernando East for 44 years and we wanted family...the constituents to come and record their memories of him.” Mitchell described Manning a legend.
“He was a legend and an icon. We are here to record our own personal memories of Mr Manning. We want to keep this condolence book in our records as we remember him for decades to come,” he said.
