Christopher George - Judo
Christopher George falls into this category.
George represented Trinidad and Tobago in Water Polo at the highest level and was even selected as team captain for the national senior team from 2008 to 2011.
However, George’s true ambition is to represent Trinidad and Tobago in the sport of Judo at the Rio Olympics in Brazil.
Judo has always interested him and he has competed in tournaments from 2009.
But formal tutelage only began in June of 2012 at the Queen’s Park Judo Club. He has many years of experience in Martial Arts, having the rank of Nidan in Shotokan Karate and a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jutsu, but Judo has now become his passion. At the 2015 PanAm Games did not finish in the medal positions to gain an automatic berth to the Olympics.
However, at the 2016 edition in Cuba, in May, he finished seventh to guarantee himself a spot at the Rio Games.
Trinidad and Tobago can, of course, be proud of a son of the soil who has the drive to compete at the highest level of his sport and is willing to sacrifice the necessary time and effort to attain such a goal.
