The stars aligned for the celebrated cricketer last weekend as both the “Kids Fun Day” in his home town of Santa Cruz and his “47” all-inclusive party in Maraval benefited from great weather and impressive turnouts from the public, his cricket family and even a regional government leader.
Grenada’s Prime Minister, Dr Keith Mitchell attended both events, along with West Indies’ cricket teammates Chris Gayle, Keiron Pollard, Darren Sammy and many others.
Afterward, Bravo expressed his pleasure with how the weekend turned out: “I’m happy that the events were a success,” he said. “Both the Kids Day and party ‘47’. We were blessed with good weather on both days and for me, the kids’ day is very important as it was my seventh year hosting it and I always like to see the kids come out and have fun, enjoy themselves with their heroes – both local and international.
Also, for the Santa Cruz community to have the opportunity to be in the midst of a prime minister – that was a touching moment for me.” The “47” event is named after Bravo’s international playing number and is themed as an all-white affair, which has been held at the chic Estate 101 venue in Maraval for the past two years.
Patrons gathered in their numbers from as early as 5 pm and were treated to never-ending food and drink, along with performances from: Akeem “Preedy” Chance, Bajan star, “Marz Ville”, Bravo himself, a couple of his singing cricket mates as well as “Sonita” singing sensation, Eric “Multi Symptom” Wilson.
“Every year it keeps getting better and better,” said Bravo. “To have my teammates come down for the weekend is a vision I had a few years ago and this was the first year I was able to tie in both events one after the other and make it a Bravo weekend. The Saturday with the kids was amazing and then Sunday, the all-white ‘47’ event turned into the talk of the town and everyone is looking forward to the next one…” However, the “47” event was not just about entertainment. Last year, Bravo partnered with longtime sponsor, blink bmobile to deliver proceeds from his marquee event to two charities. This year is no different and he is expected to announce the beneficiaries soon.
“Giving back has always been important to me,” he stated. “I came from humble beginnings and am happy to give other people, especially children, the chance to succeed and recognise their own potential… “Special thank you to Prime Minister Keith Mitchell for taking the time out to spend the weekend with me and my friends and family.
None of this would have been possible without my team –they worked very hard to make these events successful – and of course, the people who attended as well, so credit must go out to all of them. I look forward to the next one...”
