Boost your herb, orchid garden skills
La Souce Environmental Designs will hosts a workshop titled “Herbs, Vegetables and Orchid Gardening” tomorrow from 9 am to 3 pm at its Alexandria St, St Clair location.
The workshop is aimed at providing people interested in organic kitchen and orchid gardening with the necessary knowledge to grow and care for their plants at every stage of development.
Organic gardening has become a hobby for many, with an increasing number of people in TT concerned about pesticide residues and opting instead, to grow their own food.
For the first half of the workshop, participants will learn about choosing the types of vegetables and location to plant, preparing the planting area, digging planting holes, adding plants to the soil, labelling, watering and harvesting.
Particular focus will be paid to chives, parsley, celery, mint, basil, lettuce, tomato and pepper planting. They will then learn about orchid gardening, including, types of orchids, basic planting requirements, orchid care and identifying and treating orchid diseases. There will be the added bonus of a free orchid clinic where participants can bring their plants in for diagnoses and treatments.
La Souce Environmental Designs began in 2008 by founder Carlson Teloka who was seeking an alternative to the hectic lifestyle of his 20-year food manufacturing career. To date, it has been a pioneer in the landscaping industry, offering affordable, elegant solutions to various landscaping and gardening problems. Together with his wife, Indira, he has produced temporary plantscapes and water features for special events, along with permanent installations for residential and commercial buildings, such as the Holy Trinity Cathedral. In 2015, they both decided to offer training in various practical aspects of their gardening trade.
The Herb, Vegetables and Orchid Gardening workshop would have originally been solely about orchid farming, but due to demand, herbs and vegetables were added.
