They include postgraduate student, Dr Bobby Ragoobar, who will be specialising in internal medicine. Ragoobar studied medicine in Cuba previously.

The undergraduates are Clarissa Williams, Donmarie Thomas, John Ottley and Shinesse Simmons. The five will leave TT for Cuba next week.

The signing took place in a ceremony at the Ministry of Education’s tertiary education branch at Tower C, International Waterfront, Port-of- Spain.

Present were Cuban Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, Guillermo Vazquez Moreno, and family members.

Also present were the 2015 scholarship awardees, Kabeena Miguel, Pearl Charles, Alphonsus Ragbir and Danielle DeFreitas, who completed their Spanish language studies during their first academic year, and who will return to Cuba next week to commence their study in medicine.

The event was the first of Government’s scholarship programme that is being handled by the Ministry of Education.

Thanking the Cuban government for making the scholarships available, Education Minister Anthony Garcia said that every opportunity to enhance the local health sector will be embraced.

He noted that Cuba was offering studies in stomatology, a dentistry speciality. He is urging students to take advantage of the opportunity and help improve the field of dentistry and medicine in the country.
