Digicel manager charged with larceny of $150,000

The charge was laid by Constable Ashook Mootilal of the Sangre Grande CID.

The manager is expected to appear before a Sangre Grande magistrate on Monday. According to reports, on Wednesday afternoon officers from the Sangre Grande CID, led by Sgt Christopher Bino Fuentes, and including Constable Mootilal and others, went to the Digicel store and detained the suspect.

Officers were alerted after Amalgamated security, contracted to deposit cash from a receipt at a nearby bank, observed the money in the bag did not represent the amount on the receipt. The Managing Director of Digicel was contacted and a formal report was lodged with the police.

This led to investigations and the female manager was arrested and detained. It is alleged the money was stolen over a two-week period and represented cash from sales and other business transactions.

Yesterday, directions were sought from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the suspect formally charged.
