Local gymnastics president resigns

Efforts to contact Marquez yesterday to ascertain the reason for his exit proved futile as calls and messages to his cellphone were not answered.

Marquez is named among the defendants in an $11.3 million lawsuit by local gymnast Thema Williams who is seeking damages after she was replaced by the TT GF for the Rio Test Event in April.

The local gymnastics federation has been under-fire not only because of the controversial decision to send Canadian-born Marisa Dick to the Test event but has been criticised by the Sport Company of Trinidad and Tobago which this year blanked them funding for the National Championships.

In a media release, the Sport Company said attendance at the National Championships has been on a continued decline and also said there had been breaches of protocol by the TT GF which made them ineligible for funding currently.
