66 percent pass rate at CXC, CSEC
This is a slight decline from last year’s figure of a 68 percent passrate.
Performance rose on 14 subjects but fell on 17 subjects and stayed the same on four subjects.
The top results came for Physical Education (98 percent of subject entries with pass-grades), Theatre Arts (95 percent passrate), Agricultural Science (92 percent), Electronic Document Preparation and Management (EDPM) (91 percent) and Principles of Business (90 percent).
The statement spoke of “mixed results” for English A and Math.
The pass-rate for English A rose from 60 percent last year to 67 percent this year. However the Math pass-rate fell sharply from 57 percent last year to 44 percent this year. Additionally, the English B (Literature) pass-rate fell from 77 percent last year to 62 percent this year, while the Additional Math pass-rate dropped from 72 percent last year to 67 percent this year.
Science presented a mixed bag.
The Biology pass-rate rose from 66 percent last year to 80 percent this year. Human and Social Biology improved over the year from 45 percent to 53 percent.
The Physics pass-rate rose from 61 percent to 63 percent over the past year.
The Agricultural Science (Single Award) pass-rate rose from 87 percent last year to 89 percent this year, while the Agricultural Science (Double Award) fell from 94 percent to 92 percent over the year.
However Chemistry saw a fall from 59 percent to 56 percent over the past year, and Integrated Science suffered a decline from 71 percent to 64 percent.
Expressive Arts had better results in two subjects, the same on one and a drop in another.
Music improved from 72 percent to 81 percent, and Visual Arts too moved from 62 percent to 66 percent over the year. Performing Arts stayed the same at an impressive 95 percent. While Physical Education recorded the top CSE C results at 98 percent, this was a fall from 99 percent last year.
Again, the Technical and Vocational Education cluster was a mixed result.
Performance rose for Food and Nutrition (from 85 to 88 percent), Technical Drawing (from 63 to 68 percent) and Mechanical Engineering Technology (from 65 to 69 percent).
Falling results occurred for Home Economics (86 to 79 percent), Clothing and Textiles (81 to 70 percent), Building Technology Construction (82 to 77 percent), Building Technology Woods (79 to 76 percent), and Electrical and Electronic Technology (62 to 59 percent).
