Yearwood advances in Pan Am Junior Squash

Competing in the Girls Singles, Yearwood dug deep to overcome Guatemalan Zarah Pinzon-Sciarrillo 11-9, 11-9 -12- 10 in the first stage.

After press time last night, the TT representative was scheduled to square off against Canadian Grace Thomas for a spot in the Round of 16.

In other matches, female compatriots Marie-Claire Barcant and Marion Gillezeau were ousted in their opening fixtures, both falling victim to South American opposition.

Barcant lost 11-8, 8-11, 11-5, 11-9 to Rafaela Albuja-Sanchez (Ecuador) while Gillezeau was totally outplayed 11-0, 11-0, 11-0 at the hands of Maria Fernanda Roscoe (Brazil).

In the boys equivalent, Kobie Khan- Hunte bowed out 11- 4, 11-1, 11-2 against Peruvian Alvaro Garcia, Jonathan Blanc fell 11-6, 11-2, 11-1 victim to Guatemalan Junior Franco while Nicholas Caddle was eliminated 11-6, 11-3, 11-9 by Nicolas Garcia of Peru.

Additionally after press time last night, the national squad began its Boys, Girls and Mixed Doubles campaigns all against Canadian opposition.

Blanc/Caddle (Boys) was scheduled to do battle with eighth seeds Noel Heaton/ Brett Schille; Yearwood/ Barcant (Girls) lined up to face Hannah Blatt/Grace Thomas while Caddle/ Yearwood were scheduled to meet Rhea Dhar/Brock Janzer.

Matches continue today.
