Mom charged with smuggling drugs for son
The 50-year-old woman of New Lands Village, Guayaguayare, appeared before Magistrate Rae Roopchan and pleaded not guilty to the charge. The charge alleges that on Friday last at the Mayaro Police Station, she had in her possession a quantity of marijuana. Cpl Randy Ramdan laid the charge.
It is alleged that the mother went to the police station to drop off toiletries and personal items for her son, who had earlier in the day reappeared in the Mayaro courthouse on a murder charge. While checking the contents, Cpl Ramdan found the illegal narcotic in the sole of a white pair of Nike sneakers.
Yesterday Magistrate Roopchan granted the woman bail in the sum of $50,000 and adjourned the case to September 19. Sgt Ramkaran prosecuted.
